Sharing our lab

Livly has accumulated a fair amount of biotech equipment with the full capacity for human cell culture and basic immunology applications.  In order to support the development of innovative cures for diseases by individuals or early-stage startup companies, we provide full access to our equipment for a very low monthly rate.  Please contact us for more information.

Fluorescence microplate reader Molecular Devices FMAX.

A fluorescence plate reader that can quantify solution-based and cell-based fluorescence in 96-well plates.  This instrument is sensitive enough to quantify fluorescent label in only a few 100 cells.  It has a range of excitation and emission filters that cover most commonly used dyes.

Cetus Pro/pette liquid handling system. 

We feel that the physical labor of moving liquids around is best left to robots.  That way, our staff and incubees are free to spend their time planning and thinking.  This Cetus original can fill a 96-well plate up with custom-mixed solutions in no time at all.

AMG Inverted microscope.  

This inverted phase contrast microscope is perfect for visualizing cultured cells.  You can use it for routine culturing.  It can also be placed in the incubator for live-cell imaging studies.  We have control software and are set up to take long-term time-lapse movies with this scope.

Westover Scientific AMCD-3355 phase contrast microscope.

Use this high-end upright phase contrast microscope if you need ultimate magnification, resolution, and image quality.  Comes with up to 100x oil immersion objectives and Micron USB2 control software.

NuAire custom-made clean bench.

This NuAire compartment used to be a fume hood, but we rigged it and fitted it with a HEPA filter to become a clean bench.  We have cultured cells in this for many months, and never had any contamination problems.

Sanyo CO₂ incubator with infrared sensor. 

The incubator in the incubator!  This is a fairly high end unit that provides cultured cells with constant 37°C temperature and CO₂ atmosphere they need to survive.

Haereus CO₂ incubator. 

A lower end incubator.  Perfectly fine for routine culturing applications, but if you need precise pH control, better go with the Sanyo.

Mistral-1000 refrigerated centrifuge.

  The Mistral is a solid steel, bullet-proof dinosaur on the outside, but once you turn her on, you will find that she can take care of all your small and large scale centrifugation needs smoothly.   

Cell culture Dewars. 

These can be used for long term cell preservation.  The nitrogen supply is on us. 

Robbins Scientific blood mixer.

Need a really gentle shake?  The Robbins could rock a baby to sleep.

Pipettes.

Can’t have a lab without these.  In addition to the standard single-channel models, we also have a variety of multichannel versions.

Minicentrifuge. 

Perfect for the quick spin-down of cells while working in the clean bench.  Comes with all kinds of adapters for little tubes.

Fridge/freezer. 

A large household frigde (4°C) and freezer (-20°C) for your sample storage needs.
